Need more help? No problem. Here's what I can do for you:

Basic Manuscript Critique - 2 to 3-page report broken down into the following categories: title, setup/opening paragraphs, plot, exposition, setting, character, pace, dialogue, theme and conclusion. The evaluation includes an overall assessment of strengths and weaknesses, including suggestions for fixing problem areas.

Deep Critique – includes everything above plus an in depth, line-by-line look at your story. I'll show you how to craft vibrant, economical, professional prose without sacrificing style. I had a story critiqued in my first year of writing for publication, and sold the next five stories I wrote – first market, first submission. One deep critique can save you five years of trial and error.

Monthly Mentor – in-depth, one-on-one counseling, career planning and guidance. This is an open, flexible, writer-guided plan that encompasses just about anything you're interested in improving. With an open-ended duration, there's plenty of time to handle a myriad of unique writing situations – anything from a workshop-based, single project approach to a series of exercises based on skills you want to improve. An initial phone consultation lays the groundwork; we handle all the specifics from there.

Personal Appearances:

Classroom Visit - Casual, informal session with your Creative Writing/English students. Range of topics can be broad and varied (check my column at Creativity Portal to get an idea of the kind of topics I address in my coaching sessions). I really love doing these; it's always a spontaneous, fun flurry of shared information.

Seminar - You pick a topic, I'll give you a high-energy, no-holds barred 45 - 60 minutes with lots of audience participation, running around the room, flailing wildly ... get the idea? I'm passionate about my subject. Passion translates to action, which means I only stand behind the podium for about three seconds. Consider yourself warned.

Creative Writing Workshop - Manuscript critiques, group readings, submission tips, market research and more. Students bring in their stories; we work together, analyzing, evaluating and rewriting, to get the stories ready for publication. At least one story from each workshop will be polished, marketed and then actually submitted for publication before the workshop is complete! Highly motivational, compelling and inspiring, these workshops compress years of experience into 2 or 3 extremely valuable days.
